The National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA)
of Nigeria is an agency under the Federal Ministry of Science & Technology whose mission is the use of home-grown capabilities for space science research, development and applications.
NASRDA is tasked with implementing the national space policy of Nigeria and in line with this have several specialized centres and dedicated programs in place to realize this important national objective. In 2004, NASRDA launched an earth observation satellite, NigeriaSat-1 in constellation with other countries. A second observation is already being developed for launch in 2009.
NASRDA also commissioned the development of a communication satellite, NigComSat-1, with C, Ku, Ka and L bands. NigComSat-1 will provide the most optimal and cost-effective voice, data, video, internet & application services coverage for Africa.

Nigerian Communication Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) Limited
is a company under the Federal Ministry of Science & Technology whose mission is to be the leading communication satellite operator and service provider in Africa.

RASCOM's (Regional African Satellite Communications Organisation)
mission is to design, implement, operate and maintain the space segment of the African telecommunications satellite system and translate into services and tools for African integration, all the opportunities provided by satellites by linking it, where necessary, with any other appropriate technology. RASCOM must help attain the following goals;
- Provide an affordable infrastructure on a large scale to rural areas of the continent by using appropriate technology
- Improve and /or develop inter-urban communications in each country
- Establish direct links between all African countries without exception
