GVF: Conference Mission Statement

London:  Issued—Friday, July 18th, 2008

The growing global thirst for supplies of hydrocarbon-based energy, coupled with the consequential record price for a barrel of oil, is driving oil (and gas) exploration investment into increasingly extreme environments.  Record levels of demand for energy necessitates an accelerated exploration for new reserves of oil & gas; record prices render the dangerous, difficult and expensive search for, and production of, energy supplies in locations where physical conditions are the most hostile a financially practical modern day investment imperative.

As economic expansion in much of south east Asia magnifies regional energy demand, the focus of exploration efforts have shifted to such extreme environments – notably far offshore and in deepwater.  Exploration at sea by such emergent economic giants as China and India, as well as by other major regional economies like Indonesia and Malaysia, is now accounting for a growing percentage of overall deepwater capital expenditures, and is forecast to reach almost 10 percent of the global total over the next four years.

So now, more than ever, mission critical operational success in the oil & gas exploration and production (E&P) environment is dependent on access to the most efficient information and communications technologies (ICTs), and to the wealth of sophisticated applications these technologies bring to the disposal of the teams of geologists, geophysicists, drilling engineers, seismic data analysts, etc., etc., who locate new oil & gas reserves and get them out of the ground and from beneath the ocean floor.

Whilst this is true of the “oil & gas patch” the world over, access to the effectiveness and efficiency of state-of-the-art ICT is unquestionably even-more vital where already challenging E&P becomes an even more thoroughly challenging undertaking.

It is to a combination of satellite-based communications, and integrated satellite-terrestrial hybrid solutions, that oil & gas E&P turns to play a vital role in providing the essential connectivity and access to vital applications in the midst of climatic and geographic obstacles.

Oil & Gas Communications South East Asia: Digital Applications & Communications Dynamics Onshore, Offshore & Deepwater will be the conference event for 2008 at which key issues on the regional oil & gas E&P communications and applications networking agenda will take top priority.

Following three widely acclaimed ‘Oil & Gas Communications: Middle East & North Africa’ conferences held in Cairo in 2006, 2007 and 2008, and a highly successful Oil & Gas Connectivity: Digital Applications & Communications Dynamics conference held in Aberdeen in 2008,  as well as the Oil & Gas Communications modules of the West Africa Satellite Communications Summit (WASCS), GVF will again be collaborating with UK Event Management Partners (UK-EMP), and will be working in association with major oil & gas industry-related organisations  in the South East Asia region..

The Kuala Lumpur conference will provide extended networking opportunities for demand (end-user) and supply (vendor) expert practitioners, set against the context of a conference programme in which the nature of the applications and communications imperatives of the energy market vertical will be fully addressed.

This meeting of key leaders and experts from the oil & gas sector as well as the communications and commercial applications sectors in one high-level forum will create opportunities for companies in the oil & gas vertical to call upon all ICT solutions providers – terrestrial wireline, wirelesss, and satellite in the communications field, together with developers/vendors in the digital applications field – to match their offerings more closely to the specific demands and requirements of the onshore, offshore and deepwater “oil & gas patch”.
